My experience at La Casa Cielo (El Cuyo, Yucatan)

For two years, I had been dreaming of visiting El Cuyo. During the pandemic, while confined to my tiny apartment in bustling Mexico City, I stumbled upon an Instagram post about El Cuyo. The wide outdoor spaces and pristine beaches captured my imagination.

Finally, the moment arrived—I decided to treat myself to a nice beachfront hotel. After thorough research and comparisons, I settled on La Casa Cielo, the most luxurious hotel in El Cuyo at that time. It promised not only comfort but also an ideal setting for a romantic getaway.

If you’re also seeking a place to stay in El Cuyo—whether as a couple or with friends (please note that the hotel does not allow children)—I invite you to read about my experience.

A Room with a View

Upon entering my room at La Casa Cielo, I was pleasantly surprised. The space was immaculately clean and bright, with a minimalist yet tasteful decor. The room felt quite spacious, allowing for a comfortable stay.

  • One thoughtful initiative by the hotel caught my attention: reusable water bottles placed in the rooms. These bottles were sterilized at high temperatures and could be refilled with water from the fountain at the reception. It’s a small but impactful step toward sustainability.

The bathroom was equally impressive, featuring two sinks and an absolutely delightful rain shower.

But the real highlight was the view—all rooms (except one) faced the sea, overlooking the pool and the beach. My room even had a small terrace where I enjoyed my morning coffee.

On the second floor, instead of a terrace, the rooms boasted charming balconies.

The facilities

  • The restaurant and the terrace

However, it was the terrace of La Casa Cielo that truly stole the show. With no bar or restaurant directly on El Cuyo’s beach, guests at the hotel are privileged to savor such stunning views from the restaurant.

La Casa Cielo boasts a liquor license, making it one of the few places in El Cuyo where you can enjoy a drink.

Continental breakfast is included in your stay (served from 8 am to 10 am). Additionally, there are à la carte options available at an extra cost.

From 11 am to 9 pm, the restaurant serves both lunch and dinner. The menu features a delightful array of dishes, including seafood, meats, ceviches, salads, and sandwiches.

I really enjoyed the “catch of the day”: fresh fish with red curry, mashed plantain infused with turmeric, chaya (a local green), basil, and peanuts.

Good to know:

  • You have the flexibility to pay as you consume or leave the bill in your room and settle it at the end.
  • Keep an eye on your bill—sometimes the tip is already included. If you prefer to pay the tip separately and adjust the amount, feel free to do so.

Adjacent to the restaurant, there’s a comfortable lounge—a perfect spot to escape the sun during the day or seek shelter when it gets windy at night. Sink into plush sofas while enjoying games or flipping through magazines.

For an even quieter experience, head up to the rooftop terrace. It’s an ideal place to stargaze after dark.

  • Pool and Beach Access

La Casa Cielo features a lovely small pool with a jacuzzi—a refreshing oasis for guests.

Just a few steps away lies a serene space surrounded by lush vegetation, complete with lounge chairs.

Follow a private path, and you’ll reach El Cuyo’s beach.

The hotel maintains privacy by separating itself from the public beach with a buffer of vegetation—though truth be told, El Cuyo’s beach is rarely crowded anyway. ❤️

My Opinion on La Casa Cielo

La Casa Cielo truly lives up to its name—a heavenly retreat where tranquility reigns supreme.

During a conversation with the owner—an amiable and enthusiastic character—I was struck by his words: “Are you listening?”

I hesitated and replied, “No, what?”

His response was profound: “Precisely, nothing. There is no noise here except the sound of the waves and the palm trees.”

This commitment to preserving tranquility sets the tone for La Casa Cielo.

The hotel caters exclusively to adults, ensuring a serene atmosphere. No children or pets disturb the peace.

After 8 pm, guests are kindly requested to lower their volume, allowing everyone to rest and sleep undisturbed.

La Casa Cielo is an ideal haven for couples. The combination of tranquility, massages, Jacuzzi, and breathtaking views creates a romantic setting.

But it’s not just for couples—any traveler seeking an escape from screens and the chaos of routine will find solace here.

If you’re lucky, you’ll encounter Pulgoso 🐶—an adorable dog who loves two things: sleeping and receiving cuddles.
