Isla Mujeres is not the cheapest destination in Mexico, but with these tips you can enjoy the island without spending too much:
- Cheap snorkeling at Garrafon de Castilla: Very affordable entrance fee, excellent snorkeling and restaurant on site. Much cheaper than other nearby places like Garrafon Park.
- Use public transportation: The bus costs around 40 pesos, the cheapest way to get around the island.
- Enjoy the beaches without paying: Access to the beaches is free, you only pay if you use lounge chairs and umbrellas. Bring your towel and enjoy.
- Explore the island for free: Walk around downtown, discover the colorful murals and enjoy the sunset without spending a dime.
- Cheap food on Isla Mujeres: There are several options with good prices and authentic food. Lonchería Doña Mari is ideal for homemade food, while at the Municipal Market you’ll find nice loncherias near Playa Norte. And there are always street stalls where you can have a bite (tacos and antojitos) for just a few pesos.

Do hotels in Isla Mujeres offer airport shuttle service?
Usually, Isla Mujeres hotels do not include airport transfers in the price of your stay. However, many do offer transportation options, either by arranging a private transfer or by recommending reliable services.
The trip is usually divided into two parts: first, a transfer from Cancun Airport to the port, and then the ferry to Isla Mujeres.
Once on the island, some hotels can arrange a transfer from the pier to your accommodation. If you need this service, it is best to check directly with your hotel.

Which Isla Mujeres hotels are the best for solo travelers?
If you are traveling alone to Isla Mujeres, it is best to stay in the center of the island.
Here there is always an atmosphere, with bars, restaurants and lots of life, perfect to meet people and move easily everywhere. In addition, you will be close to the beach and the main attractions.
If you are looking for a place with lots of energy and activities to socialize, the Mayan Monkey is an incredible option.
It’s not in the center, but it has a super dynamic atmosphere with parties, events, pool and many common areas where there’s always someone to share a beer with or make a plan. It is ideal if you want a modern hostel, with a good vibe and without being in the bustle of downtown.
Which hotels in Isla Mujeres have reliable Wi-Fi for digital nomads?
Fortunately, although Isla Mujeres is an island, the Wi-Fi is pretty good compared to other similar destinations (nothing like Holbox!). Don’t expect super high speeds, but it’s generally reliable for remote work.
That said, if you plan to work remotely, I recommend you specifically check the Wi-Fi reviews on your hotel’s booking page. Some connections may be more stable than others, and it’s best to make sure before you book.
In my experience, I had a pretty good connection at Nautibeach Beach Front Condos and decent Wi-Fi at Mayan Monkey (though don’t expect it to reach all the way to the beach).
If you prefer to work from a coffee shop, there are a few places with good connections, such as Bambú Café Isla and Mogagua, perfect for a drink and a productive work session.
Is there a sargassum issue on Isla Mujeres?
Good news! Isla Mujeres is mostly protected from sargassum.
The seaweed arrives from the southeast and accumulates on the east side of the Cancun peninsula, while the island’s main beaches, such as Playa Norte, are on the west and remain virtually free of it.
Some areas may have some sargassum, but in general it is minimal. If you are looking for crystal clear waters, Playa Norte is your best option.
Which hotels in Isla Mujeres are pet-friendly?
If you are traveling with your pet to Isla Mujeres, you will be happy to know that there are several pet-friendly hotels where dogs and cats are welcome. Although not all accommodations allow pets, some options stand out for their amenities and pet-friendly policies.
Here are some of the best options:
- Casa de los Sueños Hotel Boutique: A hotel with spectacular views and a relaxed atmosphere, ideal to enjoy with your pet.
- Casitas Arcoiris: A cozy and comfortable lodging where dogs are welcome.

Note: Ferry companies allow dogs to travel with non extra cost. In addition, some beach clubs such as Zama Beach Club and restaurants accept pets in their outdoor areas.
How to find a cheap flight to Isla Mujeres
The closest airport to Isla Mujeres is Cancun International Airport, which receives numerous flights from Europe and North America with airlines such as Air Transat, Air Canada, Iberia, Aeromexico and KLM.
To get to Isla Mujeres, you must first fly to Cancun and from there take a transfer to the port to board the ferry to the island (buy your ferry tickets here).
