1. Where is it and how to get to Punta Lobos hike?
Punta Lobos is located very close to Todos Santos, in Baja California Sur. It is a beach frequented by local fishermen, located in a stunning natural environment.
Thanks to its easy access, it is a perfect option if you are looking for an ecotourism hike to do in Todos Santos.
You can locate it here. GPS (either Waze or Google Maps) will take you to the beach without any problem: https://maps.app.goo.gl/nTHEviWMr8wkKWE1A
There may be several accesses, but we took the road to the Hotel San Cristobal. Following the dirt road, we found a place to park without any problem, just before reaching the beach.

2. What is the Punta Lobos hike like?
When we arrived in Todos Santos from Cabo Pulmo, we were looking for a quiet hike, something simple and off the beaten path.
We found this trail by chance on the map (and we had also seen it on AllTrails), and in the end it was one of the best surprises of the trip.
- You can find it on AllTrails here: Cerro Punta Lobos
- Another route of about 3 and a half miles from Todos Santos also appears, but personally I didn’t find it appealing: it’s walking the whole beach section, which becomes tiresome because of the heat, the unsteady terrain and the lack of interesting views. – Punta Lobos from Todos Santos
After walking for a while from Punta Lobos beach, the trail starts right where the yellow chapel is.

It is a clear and visible trail, as there is no vegetation, but it goes uphill and is rocky, with dry earth and loose stones. You must have good footwear and climb carefully to avoid slipping.

As you go up, the view over the beach and the sea becomes more impressive.

If you don’t have vertigo, you can continue a little further along the trail that surrounds the hill. There you walk next to the cliff, where the sea breaks strongly on the rocks: a constant and very beautiful spectacle.
Of course, there are narrow stretches, so if you are afraid of heights, it is better not to continue along that part.

Once at the top, what I loved the most is that you can sit quietly and admire the scenery.

It’s like a prize after the effort. The panoramic view over the ocean and the desert is unique, and the best thing: there was no one else there. It is a quiet place, perfect to disconnect from the world for a while.
Of course, there is zero shade, so bring a hat, sunscreen and water.
3. Practical tips for hiking in Punta Lobos
- Comfortable shoes: you don’t need trekking shoes, I wore tennis shoes and it was perfect. Just make sure they have good soles since there are loose stones and dry earth that can be slippery.
- Bring water, hat and sunscreen: there is no shade at all.
- Also bring something to eat (if you are one of those who get hungry easily): there are no vendors or services on the beach, so be prepared with whatever you need.
- The good thing is that it’s breezy up there, so you don’t feel the heat as much.
- There are no restrooms or services in the area, so plan accordingly.
- Go early or at dusk to avoid the heat and enjoy the best light.
- Respect the environment: it is a very quiet place, and part of its charm is precisely that it is preserved that way.
- Don’t forget your flashlight if you stay at sunset: the view is spectacular when the sun goes down over the Pacific, but to go down safely it is better to have some light.
4. Is Punta Lobos Beach in Todos Santos worth visiting?
Absolutely — and it was the highlight of my stay in Todos Santos.
I had already visited the town before and, while it’s charming with its shops, art galleries, and bars, that wasn’t what I was after this time. I was looking for something quieter, more natural — especially after doing several ecotourism activities in Baja California Sur.
The Punta Lobos hike turned out to be an unexpected gem. It’s an easy trail with breathtaking ocean views, and it offers a real sense of peace — far from the tourist crowds.
Plus, the fact that it’s still an active fishing beach gives it a local, authentic atmosphere you won’t find at more developed beaches in the area.
If you’re looking for a beautiful coastal walk and a chance to connect with nature, don’t miss Punta Lobos. For me, it was hands down the best thing to do in Todos Santos.

6. Other incredible hikes in Baja California
I don’t consider myself a specialist, surely there are many more hikes in Baja California Sur, but here I share with you the ones I have done and that I liked a lot:
6.1 Balandra Viewpoint (La Paz)
Balandra beach is famous, but it has become too crowded. You have to pay an entrance fee and sometimes it is difficult to get a spot.
However, the hike to the viewpoint is easy, free and offers incredible views over the bay, with breathtaking colors.

6.2 Cañón de la Zorra (Sierra la Laguna)
In the Sol de Mayo ranch is located this canyon with a natural waterfall of 40 feet. But the most interesting thing is not to bathe, but to hike further in.
Although we got a little lost because the path is no longer clear at a certain point, I found the scenery incredible.
Besides, I was able to bathe in one of the crystal clear water wells with absolutely no one: most people don’t go that deep.

6.3 Hiking in Los Frailes Beach (Cabo Pulmo)
This was a love-hate experience (my fault, actually).
It looks like there are several possible entrances, but they don’t really lead to anything and you end up surrounded by cactus on paths that aren’t the right ones (that’s why we were confused).
Tip: don’t go in until you find the official entrance to the trail. The correct trailhead is marked by a small mound of rocks that other travelers have left as a sign.
That said, the view from the top is beautiful, surrounded by cactus, and it was a nice break to walk a bit in the area, especially if you decide to take the East Cape Trail to San Jose del Cabo, as that stretch by car is very long.
